The lush Ourika valley emerges slowly as one drives from Marrakech (about 1½ hours by taxi), and one begins to appreciate the diversity of scenery in this amazing country. The Ourika river cuts through a deep valley littered with small villages and eventually merging into a straggling village, from which a selection of restaurants and hotels enable a well deserved respite, and walk to the waterfalls.

The route towards Ouirgaine, roughly one and a half hours out of Marrakech,is probably the most well known stop on the upward pass from Marrakech towards the route over the Atlas Mountains. Beyond this, you can reach the ancient Tin Mal Mosque, which is accessible to non-Muslims. From here, you approach the renowned Tizi-n-test pass, winding its way up and across the mountains, with a steep descent, sometimes at dizzying heights, with spectacular scenary passing isolated berber villages. The Toukbal National Park is home to the highest peak in North Africa, Mount Toubkal, and is a popular destination for hikers. The The Tizi-n-Test may not be accessible in winter due to snow.
