Erg Chigaga Luxury Camp
Go action crazy, or alternatively, relax, eat, drink and stargaze...
The desert is a place of peace and quiet, with clear starry skies and big vast landscapes. Just relaxing, eating and drinking, reading a book, enjoying the hospitality, and taking the occasional walk in a pristine and totally different environment is for many activity enough.
However, for the restless, there is plenty to do.
Some people love riding camels, others prefer to walk. Whatever your preference, either a short ride or a full day out, it is easily organised. For full day rides we prepare a picnic.
You can walk to the highest dune, or just walk in the sand dunes around the camp. Given that there are few points of reference, and it is easy to get lost, we can provide you with a GPS and spare batteries (and a phone). However, you can always take one of our multi-skilled Berber guides with you!
This is a particularly strenuous activity involving walking up a sand dune for 30 minutes and sliding down for 30 seconds. Its akin to snow boarding, without the lifts.
No, these are not provided. However, if one really has a desperate need, quad biking can be done in MHamid.
An evening picnic watching the sunset and for the arrival of the stars whilst sipping an ice cold drink is a very popular activity.
With no light pollution, the night sky is very clear.
We have the normal array of games, chess, backgammon, scrabble, boule, and also slightly alternative ones as well.
This can be a hopelessly tiring experience. But, to be in the desert in the middle of nowhere is awesome. Just remember to take water, a phone and a guide or GPS.
Chefs can be very protective of their domain, but ours will happily allow you into his den to demonstrate the art of Moroccan cooking. You can either watch, or participate.
Everyone that works at the camp plays a musical instrument or can sing. Whilst musical entertainment is put on after dinner, you can expect to hear impromptu music and singing at any time of day.
