"Artistic charm and intimate relaxation throughout"

EntrancePoolSalonMassage RoomMaison

Situated in a sea of peaceful greenery just south of Essaouira, is this beautifully crafted Moroccan Riad with interesting, unusual, architecture. Unlike Essaouira, this small hamlet is sheltered from coastal winds, and a feeling of well-being prevails in this calm, peaceful, and convivial space.

Head south from Essaouira beach towards the surfing beaches of Sidi Kaouki, then cut seawards along a dusty track past errant donkeys, tiny farmsteads and waving children.

Arriving at Riad Baoussala will become a treasured memory.

You would never guess the pinky-salmon, crenellated walls of this kasbah-inspired building are less than a decade old. Antique window grilles, mature trees and a walled garden with rambling jasmines, roses and bougainvilleas suggest a much older building - enhanced when you step into its embracing, inner courtyard. The 6 bedrooms and suites are not grand but have been decorated with tender loving care by Dominique whose artistic, gentle touch permeates every corner.

The owners Dominique and Leah have created a unique charming Essaouira Riad that truly represents their personalities of excellent personal service, regional knowledge and deep relaxation. Open yet intimate seating areas throughout complement the wondrous massage lodge, hammam and pool.

This delightful guesthouse has the feel of home and sanctum, with an accent on authenticity and simplicity. Come to make new Moroccan friends, eat wholesome food, walk barefoot through dunes, hear Gnaoua music and enjoy being a long way away from the mundane.

A small fishing village built around an oasis, around 60k from Riad Baoussala

"Baoussala is a charming place to stay, made so special by Dominique and her team which is led by Leah. The accommodation, food and surroundings are excellent and nothing is too much trouble. I arrived with a damaged walker - essential for my mobility - and this was fixed on site with miminum fuss. Thank you Dominique, Leah and staff for a magical few days. Remembering my stay always makes me smile!"

Robyn from Melbourne, May 2013

"Recently returned from seven wonderful days at Riad Baussala. Dominique and Leah have created an oasis of sybaritic calm just outside the delightful historic fishing port of Essaouira. From the moment we arrived we felt we had come home.We ate a wonderful array of Moroccan food in the delightful firelit dining room every night - and most days enjoyed lunch by the pool, which, relying on the sun, was a bit parky for the adults but fine for the children who revelled in it.
We had a nightcap by the fire in our room most nights after looking at the starscape from the roof.
At the end of the most relaxing break we have had for ages nobody wanted to leave. A truly enjoyable and fulfilling week."

Malcolm from Aberdeen, April 2013

"Dominique, Leah, Rachid and the other staff always greet you with a smile, and bend over backwards to make the guests' stay as enjoyable as possible. For example, the cook was able to whip up some crepes for the kids, despite that we were in between the lunch and dinner hours. We also had trouble with a rental car and Dominique kindly inserted herself into the process, dealing directly with the car provider to resolve the issue. The pool area is lovely - a particular hit with our daughters (10 and 13).
Everything about this Riad conveys an understated style and level of comfort."

A Guest from London, April 2013
