Erfoud is on the edge of the Ziz valley, and is the departure point to the sand dunes of Merzzouga. The road from Erfoud to Merzouga needs a 4 wheel drive, and one must be aware that sand storms can occur at any time. Merzouga has few hotels and restaurants, but is surrounded by the spectacular Erg Chebbi dunes. Rising to a height of 150 metres, these majestic dunes offer incredible vistas, particularly at sunrise and sunset.
